Character Name: Edward Geraldine, but he goes by Edge
Series: Final Fantasy IV
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Species: Human
Appearance: Edge is 5'9" tall, well-muscled, but lacking an ounce of fat. His hair is generally considered to be silver, but can have a purplish tinge in the right light. Edge typically wears a large silver-purplish cape over black armor that covers only his abdomen and parts of his torso, which is light and easy to move in, and a cowl of the same color to conceal his mouth. Loose-fitting pants and knee boots complete the outfit. Edge is generally not far from the two weapons he keeps sheathed at his side, and his outfit has numerous concealed throwing weapons in it.
Personality: Edge is royalty, skilled and capable, and responsible for saving the world (with help!), and he knows it all. Perhaps his pride is justified, but it doesn't come with modesty. Edge doesn't hesitate to speak his mind, toot his own horn, or just make sure his presence is known. His pride often drives him to attempt feats he ought to know better than to do alone, such as challenging Rubicante alone, then refusing to admit defeat even when he was left a scorched wreck on a cavern floor.
Edge generally is very passionate; he gives his emotions free rein when he's not putting on the cool act. He is quick to anger and quick to care. He has a great deal of empathy, but he's terribly bad at expressing it or even recognizing it.
He is also both a flirt and a sucker for women. Though he'll turn on the charm at the drop of a hat, all it takes is a few tears or a sincerely angry word to completely bend his will to that of the girl in question.
Despite these glaring personality flaws, though, Edge is a steadfast companion, determined to see through the tasks he sets for himself. He has been training as a ninja and a prince all his life, and he HAS earned a lot of the pride in himself he flaunts. Nor does he ever make a real fuss about being a prince (except possibly to pick up the ladies); the position doesn't bring privilege with it, to his mind, but duty, which he gladly welcomes. When Eblan was destroyed, his first priority was to get his people to safely, and then to avenge it. Whatever his own failings may be, he has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and his efforts will always fall on the 'right' side of the scale.
Abilities: Edge is a trained ninja, with all that implies. He is an extremely swift and powerful fighter capable of dealing punishing damage with two swords at once, or in unarmed fighting. As the leader and pinnacle of the Eblan ninja, he has also been trained in stealth, concealment, athletics such as climbing or balance, and similar arts of infiltration and assassination. (Not that any of these came into play during the game, mind, but they are implied.)
Edge is capable of using virtually anything even slightly similar to a weapon as a throwing item. This includes knives -- and spoons.
In addition to physical abilities, the ninjas of Eblan practice a form of magic called ninjutsu, which is similar but not identical to Black Magic. Edge, through training and honed emotion, particularly anger, has unlocked much of this discipline, and has access to the following abilities:
Smoke: summons a thick smoke. Typically used to flee a battle.
Shadowbind: by driving a conjured dagger through an opponent's shadow, Edge renders them unable to move.
Mirage: summons multiple illusory duplicates of Edge.
Flood: a water attack.
Flame, Flood, Blitz, Tremor, Gale, Frost: all magical attacks with a different elemental attribute.
Items: Edge has his twin swords Murasame and Masamune. Both are incredible weapons forged by an ancient, powerful civilization and are essentially his ultimate weapons in the game. Murasame has no abilities beyond its power, but Masamune can be used to cast the Haste spell on Edge or an ally.
Edge also carries a significant supply of throwing stars and weapons on his person.
History: At some point prior to his introduction in the game, Edge's hometown of Eblan was attacked by monsters from the nearby Tower of Babil, led by Rubicante, the Archfiend of Fire. While Edge evacuated his people to the Cave of Eblan, his parents stood and fought to cover their escape; they were presumed killed. Once Edge ascertains the safety of his people, he tracked down and challenged Rubicante to a battle, but the Archfiend easily defeated him.
Cecil, Rydia, Rosa, and Kain, who had observed this fight in the course of trying to find a way into the Tower, healed the ninja after Rubicante had fled, and offered to let him join their party. Edge at first refused out of stubborn pride, since in his mind defeating Rubicante by himself is his own personal vengeance, but Rydia burst into tears at the thought of yet another senseless sacrifice. (Final Fantasy IV, lacking a party-change system, routinely had party members make these sacrifices in order to open up a slot in the party for new characters.) Unable to make a pretty girl cry, Edge relented and joined the party, even using his own ninjutsu to enable the group to sneak into the Tower.
At the top of the tower, the party discovered the King and Queen of Eblan -- who promptly transformed into a pair of chimera and attacked. A few blows exchanged on each side was enough to bring them back to their senses, after which they sadly commit suicide rather than live as monsters. Edge, absolutely infuriated, redoubled his vengeance against Rubicante, but when the archfiend arrived on the scene, he claimed that a minion did this against his wishes and that he regretted it had occurred. Edge refused to accept this, and Rubicante told him that his emotions would be his weakness -- after which Edge's intensity hit such a peak that his emotions unlocked the latent powers of his ninjutsu.
The party defeated Rubicante; moments later, Seneschal and the ninjas of Eblan arrived to lend their aid just a bit too late. Edge, honored by their willingness to stand by him, nevertheless sent them back to look after the kingdom, vowing that he will stand with his new friends to defeat the evil Golbez and save the world from his foul designs. The party advanced forward into the room housing the seven crystals they sought to recover -- only to have a pit trap dump them into the lower half of the Tower, from which they could not return to the top. Not one to be set back by this, Edge stole an airship (which he named the Falcon) and the party escaped this way.
With seven of the eight crystals in the hands of evil, the Dwarf King sent the party to recover the eighth before Golbez could acquire it. With the help of Cid, the airship engineer, Edge upgraded the Falcon to withstand the convection heat of the Underground's magma pools, albeit not without having to be constantly dragged away from flirting with Rydia to get back on-task.
They retrieved the crystal from the Sealed Cave, but Kain fell under the mental influence of Golbez (yet again) and stole the Crystal to take it to him. Completely short on options, the party upgraded the Falcon to drill out of the Underground and flew to Mysidia to inquire about the Mysidian Legend. The Elder there, understanding what needed to be done, joined his people in prayer to lift the legendary airship, the Lunar Whale, from the seas.
Boarding the Lunar Whale, the party flew to the Moon to meet the ancient Lunaria sage Fusoya. Fusoya explained that the ongoing conflict was actually a machination of a fellow Lunarian, Zemus, who was using Golbez as a puppet. Back on Earth, Golbez used the eight Crystals to summon the Giant of Babil, created by Zemus and his sympathizers to cleanse the world of existing life so the Lunarians could settle it, but it was stalemated by the *entire armed forces of the world*, giving the party enough time to enter it and destroy its CPU. Fusoya broke the mind control on Golbez, and thus indirectly Kain, and revealed that Golbez and Cecil are brothers.
Golbez and Fusoya returned to the moon to attack Zemus, while Kain rejoined the party, despite Edge's misgivings. The ninja insisted that the Giant had been entirely Kain's fault, and demanded to know why they should trust Kain again when he had succumbed to mind control before; Kain responded that should he succumb again, Edge should cut him down personally. Edge accepted this, and then the three men turned their attention towards kicking the girls off the Lunar Whale so they could go fight Zemus, in a fit of ludicrously inappropriate chivalrous chauvanism. Edge managed to completely offend Rydia by telling her that they needed to do work for grownups, now, and the two women... pretended to leave, hid elsewhere in the Lunar Whale as it went moonwards, then told the men in no uncertain terms where they could stick their chauvanism. Edge, it must be said, seemed reasonably happy to have Rydia in the party once again.
The group plunged into the depths of the Lunar Subterrane, during which many bosses were fought and many ultimate weapons acquired, including Edge's legendary swords Murasame and Masamune. In the depths of the dungeon, the party arrived just as Golbez and Fusoya defeated Zemus with a doublecast of the ultimate magic Meteor. However, the spirit and hated of Zenys arose from his corpse, naming itself Zeromus, and struck down every person there. Cecil alone remained standing long enough to claim a crystal from his fallen brother, and the prayers of all who were left behind on Earth revitalized the party enough for him to use it so that Zeromus's true form could be defeated.
With victory claimed, the party returned to Earth, and Edge assumed his rightful mantle as King of Eblan -- where he was terrible at the administrative duties, but the very heart and soul of his kingdom. He spent time flirting with girls and wishing he could get over Rydia...
First-Person Communicator Sample:
You know what we need here?
A bar. A club. A restaurant. Something along those lines. Right now I'm suffering from both an incredible lack of places to find girls to flirt with, and a similarly incredible lack of places to take them once said flirtations are successful! It's indecent... shameful, even!
So a social place. I'd run one, but I know more about consuming drinks than making them, and cooking was never high up in the ninja skill set. Still, who's with me on this?
Third-Person RP Sample:
The strange Moogle people had given him a communicator -- not technology he was unfamiliar with, thanks to a lifetime in proximity to the Tower of Babil. Clearly, these worlds had other people out there he could communicate with.
But he wasn't prepared to poke his head up just yet. He had no idea what the situation was, who could be trusted, or why he had been brought here, and none of these facts really supported a "barge in and scream hello" approach, even for a ninja as competent (and handsome) as he.
Edge kept to the shadows of Traverse Town, slipping down the streets like the trained ninja he was, but so rarely actually got the chance to be. Admittedly, he had no idea what he was looking for, so he really hoped it was going to be a "know it when you see it" sort of deal.
Around a corner, and -- Nightmares. A host of Komory Bats and a Pricklemane.
"I'm seeing it, but I'm not sure I got the 'knowing' part," he said to himself, but he knew monsters when he saw them. Or, that is, he knew monsters that weren't on HIS side when he saw them, he mentally amended, glancing over his shoulder at the Hebby Repp that followed at a safe distance. Safe to not give him away, anyway.
Without pause, he drew his blades and dove into the fray.
What’s the mod’s favorite Dream Eater? Skarmory. I mean, her Pricklemane.
