Contact Info: AIM: Dragon of Anger
Other Characters Played: Xykon; will be dropping Yugi
Character Name: Prince Edward Geraldine, aka Edge
Canon: Final Fantasy IV
Canon Background: Wiki awaaaaaay!
AU Background: Eblan will be a cliff/mountainside stronghold on one of the middle-area islands in the new map (one of the ones that don't have too much assigned to them, so making it mountainous is no problem). Historically isolationist, the current King and Queen have been relaxing that policy gradually over time in the hopes of gaining some level of benefit from trade, or at least diplomacy. Other than that, everything is pretty much as it was in canon.
Personality: Edge is royalty, skilled and capable, beloved by his people for his strength and dedication to them... and he knows it all. Perhaps his pride is justified, but it doesn't come with modesty. Edge doesn't hesitate to speak his mind, toot his own horn, or just make sure his presence is known. His pride often drives him to attempt feats he ought to know better than to do alone, such as challenging Rubicante alone, then refusing to admit defeat even when he was left a scorched wreck on a cavern floor.
He is also both a flirt and a sucker for women. Though he'll turn on the charm at the drop of a hat, all it takes is a few tears or a sincerely angry word to completely bend his will to that of the girl in question.
Despite these glaring personality flaws, though, Edge is a steadfast companion, determined to see through the tasks he sets for himself. He HAS earned a lot of the pride in himself he flaunts. Nor does he ever make a real fuss about being a prince (except possibly to pick up the ladies); the position doesn't bring privilege with it, to his mind, but duty, which he gladly welcomes. When Eblan was destroyed, his first priority was to get his people to safely, and then to avenge it.
Unlike, say, Cecil or Kain, Edge never has a moment of despair or self-doubt. He is anchored and whatever his own failings may be, he has a very strong sense of right and wrong. His efforts always fall on the 'right' side of the scale, without hesitation or introspection.
Combat Style: Edge is a trained ninja, with all that implies. He is an extremely swift and powerful fighter capable of dealing punishing damage with two swords at once, or in unarmed fighting. As the leader and pinnacle of the Eblan ninja, he has also been trained in stealth, concealment, athletics such as climbing or balance, and similar arts of infiltration and assassination. (Not that any of these came into play during the game, mind, but they are implied.)
Edge is capable of using virtually anything even slightly similar to a weapon as a throwing item. This includes knives -- and spoons.
In addition to physical abilities, the ninjas of Eblan practice a form of magic called ninjutsu, which is similar but not identical to Black Magic. Edge, through training and honed anger, has unlocked much of this discipline, and has access to the following abilities:
Smoke: summons a thick smoke. Typically used to flee a battle.
Shadowbind: by driving a conjured dagger through an opponent's shadow, Edge renders them unable to move.
Mirage: summons multiple illusory duplicates of Edge.
Flood: a water attack.
Flame, Flood, Blitz, Tremor, Gale, Frost: all magical attacks with a different elemental attribute.
It is also implied strongly in the game that the ninjas of Eblan have a greater average prowess with technology than the average denizen of the world. Edge is able to immediately commandeer and fly an enemy airship without difficulty, and is the only one in the party skilled enough to help Cid modify it (even if he'd rather have been flirting with Rydia). The ninjas of Eblan lived in the shadow of the Tower of Babil, though, so this is not surprising.
Kingdom or Faction: Eblan (Active).
Primary Role: Commander.
Soldier or Siege Company: Edge commands the Eblan ninja clan, which is a group of ninja with powers and abilities similar to his own, although not quite as effective.
Tarot Cards: The Fool, the Empress, the Emperor
Title: "Edge", essentially.
Artifacts: At some point, Edge should acquire the Masamune, which is a sword so often brought up in history or video games it will probably be taken note of. The Masamune is a legendary sword forged by a master swordsmith, with powers that depend entirely on the myth (for example, FFIV Masamune is a legendary sword created by the Lunaria, which can accelerate its bearer's movements; a Chrone Trigger Masamune would be a sword crafted by Melchior from a dreamrock knife plunged into the Mammon Machine, a literal sword of dreams and hope). In that respect, the Masamune is essentially whatever weapon you BELIEVE it to be, and will act accordingly.
Setting Considerations: I'd like the Tower of Babil to exist! What its actual purpose is in game terms can be completely different than otherwise, or even unrevealed until someone wants to use it for some purpose!
Sample Post:
You are about to embark upon a grand journey. What do you carry in your satchel?
My shuriken and enough money to see me by. Ninjas travel light!
It is the eve of a great battle, and the troops have made camp for the night. Where are you and what are you doing?
Scouting out the enemy camp and doing as much damage as possible without getting caught. There'll be time to sleep later. Every little thing I can do might be one less loss to my side!
You are presiding over a murder trial where both suspects claim innocence. What do you do?
Investigate and interrogate. I'll do it myself if I have to... one of the drawbacks of leading a ninja clan is that everybody's pretty good at not leaving evidence. That just means whoever's investigating has to be better at finding it!
The pressures of court have become too much for you to bear, what do you do?
Find a cute girl and go on a date. There's no better stress-relief than flirting!
You are given the opportunity to bet everything you have for great fortune, should you win you will be granted the wealth of kings but should you lose you will lose everything. What do you do?
That's a fool's bet. Lose everything? My honor, my dignity, my strength, my pride, my duty? What wealth is worth THAT risk?
For what cause are you willing to sacrifice yourself?
Eblan. Not the castle, or the title, but the people.
What vices keep you from achieving your true potential?
Who put you up to this question? Seneschal? There's nothing wrong with flirting! It's not holding me back!
Everything you love and held dear has been taken from you in the blink of an eye. What do you do?
Get it back. Destroy the one responsible. Whichever is possible... though the only way I'll find out the second one is impossible is through my own death.
Who deserves to pass judgement upon you, and who do you deserve to judge?
My clan and my people may judge me. And I'll judge whoever does harm or good by them.
At the end of the journey, what remains in your satchel?
A lot fewer shuriken and a lot more stuff I picked up along the way! Just because you're on a serious mission doesn't mean you can't lighten your enemies' purses before you dispatch them!
